Melvin A. Taylor

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

The best way to answer question is to say that the idea simply “popped” into my head! While meditating several years ago, back in the year 2011, the thought/vision or maybe an inner voice spoke to me. The voice introduced me to the characters, their story, these characters inspired/insisted on being introduced to the public. This voice also told me that there were 3 books in the series. I felt compelled to breathe life into all 3 books, I also didn’t want to disappoint myself, the characters or the voice that introduced me to this idea.

How do you get inspired to write?

Truthfully, I don’t just wait for inspiration to come. I write about what I’m interested in writing about. I write whenever am in the mood, things that I see, conversations with people, or conversations that I might over hear while out and about on any given day.

What are you currently working on?

Now that Book 3 in the series is completed, my focus has turned to promoting all 3 books, my new Website, sharing my store with as many people as possible and building my brand. Visit my website at melvinataylor.com!

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Try not to blend in like all other writers. Make sure to drop the word “aspiring”, if you’re writing, you’re a writer. Don’t do it, if you don’t love it, make sure you have someone you can bounce ideas off when you get stuck and make sure to write anywhere, anything and anytime you’re inspired!!

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

I am extremely excited of being able to create a world that is entirely my own and being able to share it with my readers, so it becomes a part of their world, also getting feedback from my readers in real-time, as they read or as soon as they complete the books.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

as are coming to me, but they’re jumbled in my brain and I can’t seem to organize them? This is when I would stop, take a few deep breaths and completely switch to doing something else, until the block is gone, like taking a walk, working out, riding my bicycle or have a conversation with a close friend or family member, or watch a movie that inspires me and reminds me of what message I’m trying to deliver to my readers.
